Who We Are

Beekeeping and Research Center, better known as The Beekeeping Shop (TBS), is a pioneering institution promoting sustainable beekeeping and strengthening the beekeeping value chain in Nepal over the last three decades. Though an integrated approach that combines production, research, training, and market development, the center works closely with rural farmers to enhance production capacity and quality, while providing linkages to national and international markets.

The Beekeeping Shop was established in 1996 and has been supporting growth of the Nepali beekeeping sector. The shop is committed to making beekeeping more accessible, productive, and sustainable while also promoting beekeeping related products to improve livelihoods.

As a women-led business, the organization has been promoting principles of stronger inclusion of women and marginalized groups for more active participation in the national economy through beekeeping.

Throughout the years, the shop has stayed true to its roots in science, research, and extension to apply it in connecting knowledge to practice. TBS aims to build on its experience and strengthen its role as a trusted hub for beekeeping knowledge, products, and services by connecting beekeepers with the right tools, knowledge, markets and opportunities.

Our History

The Beekeeping Shop was established as an output of the Beekeeping Training and the Extension Support Project (BETRESP), a joint project between the Government of Nepal and the Netherlands Development Organization (SNV), that focused on strengthening the beekeeping sector in Nepal. The institution stays true to its roots by supporting a network of beekeepers in improving their capacity, supplying equipment, and providing them access to markets through marketing, product value addition, and quality control. TBS works closely with its sister company, The Beekeeping Workshop, Godawari.
